Born in Belo Horizonte in 1950. Worked as political militant on the left. Lost a daughter in 1990, suicide. After that I started trying substances to help the grief. Ayahuasca first, gave me hope to keep living. No religious context, but highly spiritual and psychological experience. In 1994 I tried cannabis, and it helped a lot with the guilt. In 2001 lsd with which I had great experience of remembering child emotions and similar insights with ayahuasca. Went to Spain in 2003 trying to join some study group in order to write a manual for the set and setting for the experience of drugs as therapy. Tried ketamine. Started meditating in zen in the same year. Postponed this study for personal reasons and now I feel ready to start the report of my experience, first step to join some group with similar goals.

TITLE:  The importance of writing a manual of set and setting for experimenting substances as therapy towards self knowledge

Brazil lacks studies of substances used as therapy and for self-knowledge. I see more religious contexts and recreational. Observing friends and youth facing many problems and not analysing the experiences, and also because I had a mix of very good and very bad trips, all this motivated me to investigate and try to write a manual of set and setting for trying substances and getting the best of it. The courses I attended by Ferrigla in Barcelona in 2003 and 2004 showed me that it was possible. After I learned to meditate on zen also in Spain, the simple act of breathing and not putting the head down prevented from the agony of bad trips. Even when I have not good experiences, I don’t fall in despair. The method of analysis Ferrigla practices with the groups after the experience is very usefull for self-knowledge. As I see that in developed countries the studies are increasing, like mushrooms in the States, LSD in Switzerland… I intend to collect the studies and try to write a manual that can be used by youth or anyone who fears trying substances or already had a bad experience or did not learn how to take advantage of all that can be achieved. I intend to improve this abstract and will send you soon. Most of what I want to write came from my own experience. The manual intends to orient the users on preparing themselves and the surroundings for the substances. I was greatly inspired by books like the one by Stanislas Grof on LSD, Jansen on Ketamine, and a few others. My friend Bia Labate invited me to write this application.
