Fiona Heckels & Karen Lowton

Karen and Fiona have been practicing herbalists for over 15 years. They have walked with native plant medicines that effect shifts in perception and have stepped back into the medicine tradition from Europe and particularly the U.K. They have lectured widely on the subject of ‘the witches flying ointment’ and promote greater access to knowledge of the often feared power plants of their native lands. They run a social enterprise, Sensorysolutions.co.uk, a school for plant medicine education with a focus on growing and initiating community medicine gardens.

The Myth of Belladonna

Belladonna, a European power plant, holds the key to an altered mind perspective, as well as being important physically-active medicine. Since ancient times, this incredible plant has been famed for its applications in witchcraft and medicine. Through many years of clinical practice utilising the Solanaceae family as part of our Materia medica as herbalists, we are fascinated with the more subtle energies at work. We have walked with her mysteries and discovered how myth and history can give us clues as to the medicine contained within these plants that accesses subtle energy bodies as well as having physical effects. We will take a walk through the mysterious past, the exciting present and look for clues as to how we can harness the power of Belladonna for deeper applications of the human condition.
