Synergize the Shadow: Utilizing Psychedelic Wisdom To Integrate our Exiles
The journey to self understanding will never be complete without facing our shadow- our insecurities, fears, traumas, judgments, and projections. These are the parts of ourselves and society that we don’t wish to face, but they are the parts that we most desperately need to face, understand, and transform. As individuals and as a society, we have mechanisms that keep us stuck in our cycles (avoidance, polarization, fear), keeping us from getting to the root causes of our problems. The ego is the ‘co-conspirator’ of the shadow, keeping us from bringing the darkness into the light.
Psychedelic substances and other ‘technologies of the sacred’ help reveal the psycho-emotional echo chambers behind the personal and social problems that we put so much energy into avoiding. But how do we integrate what we see? And how do we do this difficult work without relying solely on psychedelic substances? This short talk will explore some of our individual and collective shadows, some of the mechanisms that perpetuate them, and ways to integrate and ground our insights into meaningful processes that we can utilize in our self development.
Drawing on inspiration from personal experiences working as a mental health crisis worker and his own adventure in self discovery, this talk will provide a trauma-informed mosaic of information, opinion, and practical tools that help will integrate new ideas into your life and help you face, understand, and synergize your shadow with your higher self and society.
