Shimon Newman

Shimon Newman is a young entrepreneur involved in several cryptocurrency projects and the founder of the non-profit “TRUE REVOLUTION IS POSSIBLE” (TRIP) . While in school for his undergraduate degree in International Political Economy, Shimon became enamored with the historical roles that ethnobotany has played in our development of sociopolitical structures. Upon graduating, he decided to embark on a career in drug-reform policy and impact investing surrounding issues of mental health. In late 2017 he moved to Netherlands, where he began a professional relationship with the psychedelic researchers from Maastricht University. He is now running a nonprofit (registration pending) dubbed TRIP that aims to fund legal psychedelic research in a decentralized way through the blockchain. Additionally, the TRIP platform will actively seek innovative solutions for helping low-income populations recover from addiction or trauma. Shimon’s only goal is to help others heal their minds.

Legal Psychedelic Research and Drug-Policy Reform Powered by the Blockchain

Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency will radically change the current paradigms surrounding psychedelic research and drug-policy reform. This lecture intends give a basic introduction to relevant professionals on how their work may be impacted, both positively and problematically, by the crypto-economy. After a brief breakdown of how “blockchains” and cryptocurrency function, the legal, social, economic and political ramifications of these emerging technologies as pertaining to current issues in legal psychedelic research will be explored. The majority of the rest of the presentation will be devoted to explaining how the non-profit TRIP will use blockchain in a revolutionary way to fund legal psychedelic research in a decentralized manner. Time will be set aside for a Q&A after the presentation.
