After decennia of discrimination in science and therapy, it looks now that psycholytic therapy with LSD, psilocybin and MDMA might become a significant next paradigm in psychiatry and psychotherapy.
The workshop leader has gained experience with the therapeutic use of MDMA since the introduction of MDMA to Europe in 1985. He has worked with the leading (legal) European psycholytic therapist Professor Hanscarl Leuner at Göttingen University and is a board member of the Swiss Physician Society for Psycholytic Therapy (SÄPT). He has also conducted clinical and experimental studies with psilocybin, MDMA and other psychoactive substances.
This workshop will provide insights into practical aspects of psycholytic therapy. These include choice of substances and doses, the appropriate environment, the structuring of the setting in advance of the psycholytic sessions as well as under the drug and afterwards. Other aspects are the typical course of action in the psychological sphere with these patients, the concrete handling of patients and minor as well as major complications and how to avoid them. It is also the intention to provide a realistic picture of the potentials, principles, as well as problems with the therapeutic use of psychedelics in combination with psychotherapy.
Which kind of patient can be treated with relative easy and good success and which ones are more problematic or even unable to be treated with psycholytic therapy? What are the specific psychotherapeutic problems with these approaches? What makes these methods a challenge for the therapists? Is an individual setting preferable in comparison to a group setting? And so forth.
A main part of the workshop will be structured by point of interest of the audience about specific topics/problems as well as anxieties associated with the sometimes hard-to-cope with psycholytic work.
The workshop will be held in English.
